Cordes sur Ciel Restaurants
Cordes sur Ciel has many restaurants with menus offering traditional and modern French cuisine in sometimes spectacular surroundings, as those in the upper town have terraces with excellent views over the valley. Whatever your taste or budget you will find something to appeal and good chefs take pride in making even the simplest dishes into a real dining experience. The sweet-toothed among us are pleased to note that the town also boasts a museum of sugarcraft and chocolate, with the opportunity to attend courses in the art.
The Midi-Pyrénées region of France has a long tradition of fine food and wine and the climate and rich soil combine to provide excellent local produce which is a joy to prepare, serve and eat according to the season. Many products are listed as AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée), which means that they must be made within strict geographical boundaries and follow approved traditional methods, all under the auspices of the French Ministry of Agriculture. When you visit Cordes-sur-Ciel, be sure to try some of the best regional specialities.
There is a weekly market in the lower town at Cordes sur Ciel where fresh local fruit and vegetables, dairy products, breads, cakes and regional delicacies are on offer; organic produce is strongly represented. Buying the ingredients for today's lunch or dinner direct from the farmer is a great pleasure and it's easy to give in to temptation - be sure to take shopping bags with you, however, as stallholders offer only very flimsy plastic bags and cloth bags can be expensive if you try to buy them in the market.
